Want to know how YOU can take care of the environment while at the office? Here are some hand tips:
If you’re not using your computer, why not turn it off? This includes the monitor. If you’re looking to get a new computer, try getting a notebook or a new-fangled energy-effecient desktop computer.
Don’t just throw away your computer. Recycle it! Donate it! Give it! Don’t let it just take up more space in the landfill. Network with others on the internet and get concerned about the issues.
Try to capitalize on the number of eco-friendly office supplies that are out there: Pencils, pens, fluid, paper and other supplies.
Get nontoxic office furniture that is created from renewable resources.
Use paper that is recycled and not bleached. It’s growing ever more popular and easier to find. Use email rather than snail or overnight mail, whenever possible. Keep a box for scrap paper and junk mail with at least one blank side. It’s not only handy for a quick note, but can be rather stylish when used creatively. Try to use two sides of your paper whenever possible. Conceptually, this allows you to use half the paper you would normally use.
Recycle all that you can! Telephone books, glass, aluminum, any paper, or toner cartridges. Even your food can be used to fertilize the office plants.
Have your lighting fixtures retro-fitted. It saves energy, has better quality and saves you money. Turn those lights off whenever you’re not in the room.
Avoid driving to work. Give a couple minutes of inconvenience to walk, bike, or ride public transportation.
