To Compliment Your Computer …
Posted on | November 17, 2008 | No Comments
Did you know there’s more than just a mouse, a keyboard and a printer to add to your computer’s functionality? Today, you can unlock your computer’s potential with a number of gadgets and gizmos calculated to train, inspire, entertain you and just make your life easier.
Even after including all of the items we actually need in our lives, computer catalogs still have many pages left to fill. Fortunately, there is an entire industry working hard to invent useless and downright asinine devices, in the hopes that someone will accidentally buy them.
Take for instance, Digital Picture Frames. These babies are beginning to move from nice-to-haves to actually quite useful. Some have an in-built 600dpi scanner so it’ll digitize your hardcopy photo archive for you. It’s got a 1GB memory, apparently good for about 200 4 x 6-inch prints (the maximum size the scanner can take). They also have a respectable 800 x 600-pixel 4:3 ratio screen, as well as two USB ports so you can sync the frame to your PC and plug in flash drives and the like.
Then you have the Bluetooth laser generated keyboard. This tiny device laser-projects a keyboard on any flat surface. You can then type away accompanied by simulated key click sounds. It really is true future magic at its best. You’ll be turning heads the moment you pull this baby from your pocket and use it to compose an e-mail on your bluetooth enabled PDA or Cell Phone. With 63 keys and and full size QWERTY layout the Laser Virtual Keyboard can approach typing speeds of a standard keyboard… in a size a little larger than a matchbook.
And who could go on the road with out taking their drum set with them? Your USB Drum Kit includes six different pad areas (snare, kick & two toms). Simply install the included software, plug your kit in, and let your rhythmical hammered fists of fury fly. The software will allow you to control and select the various sounds programmed to each pad. You can choose between 50 percussion sounds, 20 preprogrammed percussion sets and 100 preprogrammed beats. Even if you’ve never played, you can just select the ‘learning mode’ and play along to some pre recorded beats. Otherwise, just enjoy the free play mode. When you think you are good enough, you can even record your riffs and save to .wav file.

How to Pick the Right Attorney

Have a DUI charges in Mississippi? You need a Mississippi DUI Attorney.
At some point in life, we all will need the services of an attorney, whether it is for buying a home, starting a business, an automobile accident, or getting a divorce. Attorneys aren’t just people who provide legal information; they have invaluable experience, training, and skills that allow them to surmount all sorts of legal obstacles that you may not be able to do on your own. But how do you find THE right attorney to help you with your particular problem? You need to know where to look.
Personal referrals can be an incredible resource. Find out if family members, friends, or co-workers have good recommendation. This also gives you an opportunity to ask questions about the overall experience, the attorney, satisfaction with the results and much more. Your best option is talking to someone who has been in a similar situation. Other good resources include teachers, doctors, social workers or other lawyers in the community.
State Bar associations generally have a certified lawyer referral program, which will interview you (usually for a small fee) and refer you to a program attorney who fits your needs.
Most law firms advertise in the classifieds, newspapers and yellow pages. The downside is that these typically give only the bare-bone necessary information and will do little to help you decide if an attorney will meet your needs.
Non-profit public interest organizations may be an option. These groups are often oriented towards civil liberties or activism, and may have staff attorneys who can help your case on an individual level, or counsel with a group of people.
Many attorneys offer a free consultation, but most charge for their advice and legal representation. It is possible however, to find free legal aid agencies, low-income legal clinics, and attorneys who will represent you “pro bono.”
Frequently, communities have Dispute Resolution Programs in place to help mediate between you and another party without the need for trial.
You may also have Prepaid legal service plans at your disposal. This functions much in the same manner as medical insurance, where you pay a premium that gives you access to a lawyers time and services at a reduced rate.
The most important thing to remember is that you should never decide firmly on a lawyer based on any of these suggestions. It is impossible to accurately assess an attorney based on an ad, or a website, or a telephone conversation. Make sure to meet with the attorney, talk about the case, and come to a conclusion about how trustworthy you think they are before you make that final decision.
Quick Gardening Tips

A Gardening Blog about gardening in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, her garden, the flowers, what she wants to do in her yard and how it all fits into her everyday life.
An entertaining and eclectic Canadian Gardening Blog.
Enjoyable Blog about children and flowers.
The Garden Rant is a laugh-out-loud hilarious and informative Gardening Blog.
The principles that are used to decorate a home are the same principles that go towards a well decorated garden. Really, the garden is largely an extension of one’s home. A place for family and friends to relax and spend time, just as they would in a living or dining room. The natural beauty of the garden that stems from the trees, lawns, shrubs, plants, and the presence of living creatures can be enriched with the skilled use of additional garden decor and tasteful accents.
Just as there are many interior decorations that can enhance a home, there are a variety of outdoor decorations for the garden. The grass, plants, and flowers should be seen as organic decorations and utilized as such. Additionally, garden planters and containers accent these living decorations. In some environments where the topsoil is either non-existent or of poor-quality, planters are a necessity. They are especially useful in apartments, where a balcony may be the only option for a garden. Planters and containers come in a variety of sizes, shapes and materials, and thus can be suited to any garden to add shape, depth or height.
Statues and garden ornaments have a long history as garden decoration, and are both popular and highly stylish. But before you run out to the store for that classy plastic pink flamingo, you should know that by statues and ornaments, I’m referring to sundials, wishing wells, bronze sculptures, and bas-reliefs. These not only function as decoration but can become valuable collectibles, giving your garden an elegant unifying theme.
Other items to consider for your garden: waterfalls, trellises or arches, lanterns, wind chimes, or rock gardens. These are just a few ideas for your garden, and should afford you the freedom, uniqueness and flexibility you desire. Feel free to allow your imagination run wild, and experiment with different ideas. Let your garden become an extension of you. Gardens have a beautiful way of expressing who you are in a way that anyone can enjoy.

So, you think you know what a computer looks like? Look again. Computers keep getting smaller and smaller, but does that mean that power and performance are being substituted for convenience and trend? Well, it all depends on what you use it for. The new mini PC’s or mini Laptops, which ever you prefer to call them, are aimed mostly at the education market, but also have wide-range appeal to your average Joe-the-businessman too! Now you can be connected wherever you go. With the laptop open and screens sitting low, students won’t be able to hide behind them or avoid the teacher. Some keyboards are spill-proof for up to an ounce of liquid too! They also fit snugly inside most briefcases.

The price alone of these super-condensed computers are a huge lure; typical price is somewhere between $300-$600 depending on the brand. Most weigh less than 2 kilograms, but the big drawback is that they are less powerful than full-fledged laptops so that the batteries last longer. They’re mainly designed for Internet surfing and work on spreadsheets or word processor documents, not for heavy duty gaming, video editing or other multimedia work. Depending on the brand, you could be running Windows, Mac OS X or Linux. Features and specs can include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and high resolution LCD screens.

The Laptop Appeal
Posted on | October 29, 2008 | No Comments
Got a laptop? If so, you’re not alone. A growing interest in wireless computing plays to the laptop’s main strength: its portability. Even though they tend to cost more than desktop systems, consumers seem to want to take full advantage of the growing availability of high-speed, wireless Internet access at airports, schools, hotels, restaurants, and coffee shops—not just at home. Most laptops now have wireless networking capability built in and deliver long battery life. The thinnest laptops on the market are less than an inch thick and weigh just 3 to 5 pounds. But to get these light, sleek models, you’ll have to pay a premium and make some sacrifices in performance, screen size, and features.
A laptop computer is your best choice if portability and compactness are priorities. A desktop computer typically costs less for equivalent performance and is easier to upgrade, expand, and repair, but you can’t shove it in your backpack and take it to class either. But desktops offer better ergonomics, such as a more comfortable keyboard, bigger eye-level display, and enhanced audio.
Bigger, crisper displays and more usable key layouts have replaced small screens and cramped keyboards on laptop computers. Laptop processors have also caught up in speed with desktop models, and innovative dual-core processors are also available.
As computers become a repository for digital photos, music, and video, manufacturers are making laptops seem almost essential for everyday living.

Mac or PC?
Posted on | October 24, 2008 | No Comments
Everyone knows the deeply embedded stereotypes: Mac users are cool, unshaven and use their computers for creative, edgy pursuits in music, art and video while the PC people are boring, overweight number-crunching nerds with a really thick laptop. Then again, PC enthusiasts probably think that Mac guy is a smug slacker with an ever thinning, over-priced MacBook that can’t do any serious computing anyway. Funny thing is, both stereotypes are wrong. With a 7.5 percent market share, Macs are no longer just the computer choice of artists and unemployed writers. (Apple is, in fact, the fourth largest computer manufacturer in the world.) And now, more than ever, the guts of both platforms are much more the same than different. Both machines use Intel processors. Both buy memory, hard drives and graphics cards from the same small pool of suppliers. While both operating systems are uniquely different; Microsoft Windows Vista and Mac OS X Leopard have surprisingly similar built-in multimedia, Internet and productivity applications.
Yet what makes the platforms feel so different is their approach to getting the same job done. Internet Explorer versus Safari, Windows Media Center versus Front Row, Photo Gallery versus iPhoto, Backup and Restore Center versus Time Machine—these system components from Microsoft and Apple are designed to accomplish essentially the same goals. But to users, the position and movement of the virtual knobs and levers make all the difference.
So, the next time you see one of those popular ads and begin to ask yourself which one you prefer, remember this: In the end, the same thing happens to both computers when flung out of a moving truck!

Illuminate Your Business
Posted on | October 22, 2008 | No Comments
As businesses try to establish themselves among the competition the idea is to try and gain a competitive advantage. This can be done in a number of ways which can include providing better quality than that of competitors, lower costs, greater customer service, or superior advertising. In setting themselves apart companies start to create their company identity.
Company identity sets up a reputation among consumers while at the same time its logo becomes a part of that. Take for example Apple and Microsoft:

These two symbols or logos distinguish their products. Apple has portrayed its products as being fun, entertaining, and creative. While Microsoft promotes its products as business oriented, professional, and advanced. Logos are an easy way for companies to promote their products without even saying anything. They are all around us posted on billboards, displayed in magazines, on TV, portrayed at Bus stops, and presented on websites throughout the Internet.
A well designed logo can add value to a company’s image in the mind of consumers. Taco Bell, for example, spends 20 times more on its permanent media (e.g. signs that carry only its name and logo) than it spends on advertising – (Pamela Henderson and Joseph Cote 1998). Reversely a poor designed logo can affect a company in a negative way, possibly even before customers purchase the product. For example, both Joe the Camel logo and proctor and gamble moon and stars logo have elicited negative reactions that have hurt corporate image.
Companies in the past would have to produce a product, which then would have to become familiar to the public. After and only after it becomes familiar to people would they then associate the symbol or logo of the company to the product. Now in the technological age consumers are gaining the upper hand. With the internet boom which started in the late 90’s and more recently in the 2000’s companies are able to display their logos on multiple web pages to try and create awareness. When a consumer is repeatedly exposed to some form of a company, i.e. logos then it results in added benefits to the company. Social networks are giving power back to the consumer which gives small businesses an advantage. The challenge now is to reverse the process and create familiarity with the product utilizing these social networks in hopes that people associate your logo with a certain product the next time they go to purchase.

U.S. Government – 101
Posted on | October 1, 2008 | No Comments
The federal government of the United States is the central United States governmental body, established by the United States Constitution. The United States Government consists of three separate branches: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Together, they function as a system of lawmaking and enforcement based on checks and balances, and separation of powers intended to ensure that no individual or body of government ever becomes too powerful.
“In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”
- Alexander Hamilton and James Madison in Federalist 51
In the effort of enabling the government to control itself, it is important to understand how each branch functions.
The Executive Branch
The Executive branch consists of the President and his delegates. The President functions as the head of state and government, as well as the military commander-in-chief, chief diplomat and chief of party. The power to sign legislation passed by Congress into law, or veto it, is reserved by the President as well as the power to appoint Supreme Court justices and federal judges.
The Legislative Branch
The United States Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government. It is comprised of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Constitution grants numerous powers to Congress. These powers are mainly over taxes, currency, the establishment of roads and post offices, promoting the progress of science and maintaining a powerful military.
The Judicial Branch
The Judicial Branch is represented by the The Supreme Court. The court deals with interpretation of the United States Constitution, matters pertaining to the federal government, disputes between states, and can declare legislation or executive action made at any level of the government as unconstitutional, nullifying the law.
Summary
In short, each branch has power to act on its own, some authority to regulate the other two branches, and is in turn regulated by the other branches. For example:
• Congress may pass laws, but the president reserves the power to veto them.
• Congress reserves the power to override the president’s veto.
• The Supreme Court can declare a law approved by Congress and the president unconstitutional.
• The president can appoint judges to the Supreme Court, but Congress must approve them.
Do these branches function as a perfect system? Of course not. But “[i]f men were angels, no government would be necessary” (Alexander Hamilton and James Madison in Federalist 51).

Green Household Tips: Reducing your Wastewater Outflow
Posted on | October 1, 2008 | No Comments
Wastewater is simply used water. It includes substances such as human waste, food scraps, oils, soaps and chemicals. In homes, this includes water from sinks, showers, bathtubs, toilets, washing machines and dishwashers. Herein we will explore some simple ways to help “slow the flow.”
1. Reduce your water pressure
One simple way of reducing your water pressure is by replacing your old shower head with a low-flow shower head. All showerheads manufactured after 1995 must flow at no more than 2.5 gallons per minute. If your shower is older than 1995, now may be a good time to do some updating.
2. Strive to be more wastewater conscious
Limiting your time in the shower can save 10 gallons of water every 4 minutes (and even more if you have an older shower). Shower meditation can certainly be a hard habit to kick, but a 4 minute brisk walk can be just as effective – and healthier! Maybe even consider installing a shower timer (that’s right, somebody beat you to the patent).
Turning off faucets while shaving and brushing your teeth can also help reduce your wastewater outflow. For shaving, consider simply filling the sink to a low level, rather than just rinsing your razor in the running water. And when brushing, fill a cup for rinsing and swishing. It helps save water, and is much less barbaric than drinking from your “hand basin.”
Stop using the toilet as an ashtray or wastebasket. Some people flush away tissues and other trash in the toilet. Using a wastebasket will save all those gallons of water that otherwise go wastefully down the drain. (See Improve your Toilets below for details on water used by toilets).
And as for those washing machines, try to only run them when they are full, and always adjust cycle settings to match loads.
3. Improving your Toilets
Replacing old high-flow toilets with water-saving or low-flush toilets is an extremely effective way of reducing wastewater. Most toilets installed before 1980 use 5-7 gallons of water per flush. Toilets installed between 1980 and 1993 use 3.5 gallons per flush. And toilets installed since 1994 use 1.6 gallons. Wow. Let’s update that toilet.
Another simple way to improve your toilets is to fill a milk jug or plastic container with rocks and place it in the toilet tank. Also, fix toilets that are constantly running. Most of the time, a running toilet can be fixed by simply replacing the plug in the water tank.
So, as you can see, by changing just a few habits, you could save thousands and thousands of gallons of water per year and make you “water footprint” a little smaller.

While spending time online is one of the greatest ways to make money, you can’t do it for very long unless you have a comfortable working environment. Which is why it is important to know how to choose the best computer, laptop, or desktop for your needs.
First, how do you decide which type of computer to use? Well, that depends on what you do for work/fun. If you are really heavily into gaming online, you’ll need a computer with a lot of speed and really great graphics capabilities.
If on the other hand you are really into developing or web design, you’ll also want a fast computer, but you’ll need a computer with a great deal of available memory, because you’ll be using applications that require a great deal of power from your computer.
So now you know generally what to look for in a computer based on your needs. Now let’s look at whether you need a laptop or a desktop.
In the work world, having a laptop is pretty essential to your job because even though we can do almost anything online now, meeting people face to face is and always will be a major factor in getting work done and forging relationships. So if you need to make a presentation, set up a meeting, or do any of a number of different tasks that require travel, a laptop is essential.
However, many times you’ll find that you can accomplish just as much from a desktop computer, and also have the added benefit of a greater user experience and work environment.
